New Updates

So Carl and I have been busy, or I have been busy and Carl has been hanging out in the rabbit barn for a project.  This project was one that involved a lot of spray paint which is not healthy for Carl.  This project was devised by my wife.  She was helping a friend have a birthday party for her children.  We took a few items and a lot of spray paint to make this.

We started this project with a few supplies.

1.  An 8-inch diameter x 48-inch concrete tube

2.  1/2 inch PVC pipe and fittings.  35 feet of pipe and a LOT of fittings.

So then we started….  My wife and I started this project with an idea to make a cupcake stand.  Then it grew.

Now we have two circular pieces of pine one 24 inch in diameter and the other one is 17 inch in diameter.  This picture is where we started stabbing the pipe into the center section of tubing.  We used my drill press to make holes for the pipe.

And it continued to evolve.

and evolve…

Then it was ready for paint.  DID I mention a lot of fittings random fittings.

So then the spray paint started.  First my shop turned white as snow.

Then my shop became a candy apple red.  My clothes, my chair and yes everything.  We didn’t have any rain here in Texas until I started to paint by the way.

Now the big reveal!!!!

Next, we have to find something to hold the goodies.

Then they have to match.

Completion!!!!!  One comment is that it didn’t travel very well and you have to tweak it to get it through a normal size door instead of my shop’s double doors.  But now Carl is back and not too happy about his vacation to the rabbit barn.

Carl Back in the shop

Now we are doing some magnetic boards to sell….  Carl is back to being shop manager and listening to Yanni for stress relief because of his trip to the rabbit barn where there are many more rabbits.

Carl’s Been Busy

So sorry for the long hiatus!

Over the winter Carl has been busy!  He is the proud Daddy of 9 kits.  So far the Mama is not being very good so we are busy hand raising the new babies.  The babies were born on Friday the 13th!  Here is a picture of a couple.  They are getting their colors now and look a little better than they did on day one.

Carl, Abby and I worked on sending Mama a present for her birthday and Valentine’s Day while she was away taking care of her mother.  Picture of work in progress of the piece.

We added pictures to the project to make sure she didn’t forget what we looked like.  After this picture was taken, we applied a clear coat to protect our piece.  Carl just loved working with this piece of purple heart.

Now we are working on a new floor in Mama’s home office.

This is where we started.  OUT with the old and in with the NEW!!!

20180411_133357Mama’s got the shovel time to get the work done.  Carl is long gone.  NAP TIME!  (The red is not blood it is snow cone syrup this building was used for a summer treat in its previous life.)

Mama and Carl worked hard and it’s all out.  Time for the new floor.

In with the new, guess what she wants.

IMG_3563This is how the floor starts.  (I know I should be wearing my safety glasses!  I sent Carl on a fetch them and he wasn’t back yet.)  Every cut is 1-1/4 inches, EVERY CUT!!

img_3557.jpgCarl setup the jig at 1-1/4 inches to make cutting go faster.  He went and measured the floor.  By his lucky rabbit foot calculations, it should take us roughly 3000 pieces depending on the dimensions of the wood.

One down and many many more to go.

The remainder of this week and next week we will be working on getting this floor put together and finished up.  Carl is going to take it easy and rest over the weekend while we do our rabbit stuff.  We will post more next week from the work we complete on the floor this week and next week.  We will post Carl’s offspring as they get older too.  Until then thank you for following Carl and our wood working adventures.

Hopefully Carl will remember my safety glasses for the next cutting session.

What’s Happening in My Shop Carl’s Rules?

HOWDY Y’all.  My name is Tim and my shop manager is Carl.  Carl is a rabbit.  He lives in my shop except when my daughter is showing him.  Carl is a Fawn Flemish Giant.  He is the ruler of the shop and safety manager.  Carl is all about the safety of my wood shop.  He is very independent unless I have treats (AKA Carrots).  Then he likes me.

Carl was won in an Auction in the rabbit show community for a dear friend whose mother has cancer and needed help paying for treatments.  Carl has been the best auction item ever won!  He is great company and keeps me on my toes as he likes to lick them.

Over the last week, Carl and I have been tasked with building bed frames for the rental cabin.  With help we spent a day planing culled lumber, and cutting lengths for the beds.  Finally yesterday we got it together in the cabin for use.  This is the frame before it we added the mattress and bedding.  The finish will come later after it has time to get a little abuse and will look more rustic.  This way it will acclimate to the rest of the cabin.20171001_155315[1]Carl and I are planning many more wood working projects and would like to post them here for you to see.  Carl and I have lots of stories of memories and family to come.  This page will be about Carl, wood working projects he (my wife) gets us into.  He listens to her better than I do.  So he tells me how to make it the way she wants.  Also, we would like to tell you about Rabbits and how they can be great companions too.  (Much better than a cat and cleaner than a dog) Just kidding we have all sorts of animals.  My wife has wild kingdom!  So until the next post Carl is listening for the next instruction on projects.
